Liminal Space × Tiësto: A location-based entertainment experience for Drive

Galvanized and Liminal Space turned the pre-release of Tiësto’s album Drive into a walk-in show — Spatial LED, no headset, an audience in 3D glasses standing inside the record before anyone else could hear it.

01 · The Brief

The Brief

Liminal Space builds Spatial LED — a patented display system that creates holographic-feeling environments without a VR headset. Ahead of Tiësto’s new album Drive, they wanted a preview that matched the technology’s ambition.

Not a listening room. A space fans could physically stand inside before the record existed anywhere else. Galvanized was brought in to produce it — from creative direction through the technical build that put Liminal’s display system to work for a live audience.

02 · The Experience

The Experience

Guests at The Academy in Los Angeles were handed 3D glasses at the door. Liminal’s Spatial LED walls turned the venue into a synced environment of thematic 3D imagery and music videos, timed to the record.

Nothing here was streamed to a screen at home. The audio, the visuals, and the room were built to exist in one place, for the people standing in it — a physical-digital hybrid rather than a broadcast.

No headset. No stream.
Just the room.

Why This Is Location-Based Entertainment

Location-based entertainment (LBE) is any experience built to be encountered in a specific physical place — a venue, an installation, a pop-up — rather than delivered through a screen at home. The Tiësto Drive preview qualifies on every count: it ran on hardware fixed to one room at The Academy, it depended on a live, shared audience wearing 3D glasses, and it could not be streamed, downloaded, or replicated anywhere else.

That’s the same discipline Galvanized brings to location-based work across live music, sport, and brand activations — pairing a physical venue with proprietary technology to create something that only exists if you’re standing in the room.

04 · The Technology

Liminal Space’s Spatial LED

Liminal Space is a Los Angeles–based display technology company and a Galvanized Ventures portfolio partner. Its patented Spatial LED systems create large-scale, holographic-feeling environments for live concerts, gaming, esports, and art installations — without requiring a VR headset.

Galvanized works with Liminal Space to turn that hardware into produced, audience-ready experiences like the Drive preview.
